Common Issues with Residential Boilers: Do You Suffer These Issues?

If your residential boiler is working correctly, it’s one of the best ways to heat your home. It’s energy efficient, there’s little maintenance required, it operates quietly, and it evenly distributes heat to your home. In most cases, a residential boiler will last longer than other options for heating your home, which make them an excellent long-term cost-effective option.

That said, boilers do malfunction – even when you have regular maintenance. If you’ve noticed that your home isn’t as warm as it should be or that the heat isn’t being evenly distributed throughout your home, then you may need to give The Stanley Louis Company a call. We can help ensure that your boiler is working at its highest capacity. Call us now at 800-217-6527 to set up an appointment. In the meantime, check out these common boiler issues we see.

A loss of pressure

If your boiler doesn’t have sufficient water pressure in its pipes or tanks, then it’s not going to offer your home enough heat. There are a number of reasons this could be happening, but the most common cause are leaks – many of which happen in places you can’t even see – and issues with the pressure relief valve.

Pipework that’s corroded and / or blocked

If your boiler appears to be working the way it’s supposed to, yet there are some rooms in your home that simply aren’t being heated well, then there could be blockage in some pipes. Corrosion can also result in debris, sludge, and other things building up in your pipes. When that happens, then they become blocked and some areas of your home won’t get the heat they should be getting.

Your thermostat isn’t working correctly

If you’re thermostat stops working correctly then it’s going to think the temperature is different than it is and it’s going to instruct your boiler to turn on at the wrong times. It may turn on when it’s already warm enough or it may not turn on until it’s much colder that it should be. That’s why one of the first things a boiler service company will check is your thermostat. The good news is that this is one of the easier things for us to fix.

Homes that aren’t outfitted with the right sized boiler

Boilers are not one-size-fits-all. When a boiler seems to be working fine but it’s not offering enough heat, then the issue may be that it’s not a large enough boiler. This often happens with inexperienced people install a boiler. You always need a professional to assess the right size and install it correctly in your home.
