Is an active solar system best for your needs?
With an active solar system, water is circulated between your solar collector and a storage collect by a pump. This provides a constantly supply of hot water for your home or business. It’s a very efficient option and can be used alone or as a pre-heater when you want warm water to be further heated in a conventional system.
Is a passive solar system best for your needs?
The other main option is a passive solar system. This has a few advantages, including the fact that they’re more affordable. They are also more reliable because they don’t have a pump. Instead, they get heated water to rise naturally from the location it’s collected to the tank in which it’s stored. This does have design constraints, on account of the fact that the storage tank has to be above the collector, which poses an issue in some homes or businesses.
